Ingredients:
- 2 (20-ounce) cans Canned Apple Slices (drained)
- 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar (packed)
- 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 teaspoon Lemon Zest (optional)
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour (plain flour)
- 1/2 cup Rolled Oats (not instant)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) Unsalted Butter (cubed, very cold)
- 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/4 cup Light Brown Sugar (packed)
- 1/4 teaspoon Pinch of Salt
Instructions:
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking dish.
- Drain Apples: Thoroughly drain the canned apple slices. Pat them gently with paper towels to remove excess liquid.
- Enhance Flavour: Place the drained apples into the baking dish. Sprinkle with the tablespoon of brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and lemon zest (if using). Gently stir to coat the apples evenly. Set aside.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, rolled oats, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt.
- Add Butter: Add the very cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients.
- Create Crumble Texture (Rubbing In): Use your fingertips to quickly rub the butter into the flour mixture until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs or fine pebbles. Avoid overmixing.
- Assemble: Scatter the crumble mixture evenly over the top of the prepared apple filling in the baking dish. Do not pack it down.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the topping is deep golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling around the edges.
- Cool Slightly: Remove from the oven. Allow the crumble to rest for 10–15 minutes before serving to allow the filling to settle.
