Ingredients:

  • 4 US Cups, Sifted Powdered Sugar (Confectioners' Sugar)
  • 4-6 US Tbsp Milk (Whole or 2%) or Water
  • 1 US Tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 US Tbsp Light Corn Syrup (Optional)
  • 1/8 US Tsp Salt (Optional)

Instructions:

  1. Sift the powdered sugar directly into a medium mixing bowl using a fine-mesh sieve. This step is crucial to eliminate lumps and ensure a silky final texture.
  2. In a separate small bowl, gently whisk together 4 tablespoons (60 ml) of the milk/water, vanilla extract, corn syrup (if using), and salt.
  3. Pour the liquid mixture into the sifted sugar. Begin mixing on low speed or by hand until the ingredients are just combined into a thick paste.
  4. Increase the speed to medium and beat for 1-2 minutes until the icing is smooth and glossy.
  5. Check the icing consistency. It should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. If the icing is too thick, gradually add the remaining milk, 1 teaspoon (5 ml) at a time, until the desired ribbon consistency is achieved.
  6. If coloring, divide the icing and mix in gel-based food coloring until thoroughly incorporated. Avoid liquid food coloring.
  7. Use the glaze immediately for flooding and outlining cookies, or transfer to piping bags.
