Ingredients:
- 4 US Cups, Sifted Powdered Sugar (Confectioners' Sugar)
- 4-6 US Tbsp Milk (Whole or 2%) or Water
- 1 US Tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1 US Tbsp Light Corn Syrup (Optional)
- 1/8 US Tsp Salt (Optional)
Instructions:
- Sift the powdered sugar directly into a medium mixing bowl using a fine-mesh sieve. This step is crucial to eliminate lumps and ensure a silky final texture.
- In a separate small bowl, gently whisk together 4 tablespoons (60 ml) of the milk/water, vanilla extract, corn syrup (if using), and salt.
- Pour the liquid mixture into the sifted sugar. Begin mixing on low speed or by hand until the ingredients are just combined into a thick paste.
- Increase the speed to medium and beat for 1-2 minutes until the icing is smooth and glossy.
- Check the icing consistency. It should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. If the icing is too thick, gradually add the remaining milk, 1 teaspoon (5 ml) at a time, until the desired ribbon consistency is achieved.
- If coloring, divide the icing and mix in gel-based food coloring until thoroughly incorporated. Avoid liquid food coloring.
- Use the glaze immediately for flooding and outlining cookies, or transfer to piping bags.
