Ingredients:

  • 5 lbs (680 g) Fresh Green Beans, ends trimmed
  • 8 oz (225 g) Thick-Cut Smoked Bacon, diced into 1/4 inch pieces
  • 4 Tbsp (55 g) Unsalted Butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup (110 g) Light Brown Sugar, firmly packed
  • 3 Tbsp (45 ml) Low-Sodium Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven temperature to 400°F (200°C). Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Dice the bacon into small pieces and snap or trim the ends off the green beans, ensuring they are dry.
  2. Gently melt the unsalted butter. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, packed brown sugar, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and black pepper until the mixture is uniform.
  3. Place the trimmed green beans into a large mixing bowl. Pour half (1/2) of the prepared glaze over the beans and toss well until coated. Spread the glazed beans onto the prepared baking sheet in a single layer to avoid steaming. Scatter the diced bacon evenly over the beans. Bake for 15 minutes.
  4. Remove the pan from the oven. Using tongs, give the beans a good stir to redistribute the bacon and any pooling glaze. Drizzle the remaining half of the sticky glaze evenly over the beans and toss again quickly on the tray. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, or until the bacon is crisp and the glaze has reduced down to a sticky, dark coating.
  5. Remove the beans from the oven. Allow them to cool slightly (about 5 minutes) as the glaze will thicken. Give them one final toss on the tray just before transferring to a serving dish. Serve hot.
