Ingredients:

  • 2 thick slices (approx. 2 oz / 56g each) sourdough or multigrain bread
  • 1 tsp (5ml) extra virgin olive oil or unsalted butter
  • 1 clove raw garlic (optional)
  • 1 ripe avocado (approx. 5 oz / 140g), pitted and peeled
  • 1 tsp (5ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) kosher salt
  • 1/8 tsp (0.5g) cracked black pepper
  • pinch (0.1g) red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp (5ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • pinch of flaky sea salt

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the scooped avocado, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Using a fork, mash the avocado until it reaches your preferred consistency. Stir in the red pepper flakes.
  2. Toast the bread slices until they are golden brown and firm to the touch. If using a skillet, heat oil over medium heat and toast for 2 minutes per side. While hot, optionally brush with olive oil or rub a raw garlic clove over the surface.
  3. Spoon a generous amount of the avocado smash onto each slice, spreading it to the edges. Drizzle with a tiny bit of olive oil and finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt. Serve immediately.
