Ingredients:
- 2 thick slices (approx. 2 oz / 56g each) sourdough or multigrain bread
- 1 tsp (5ml) extra virgin olive oil or unsalted butter
- 1 clove raw garlic (optional)
- 1 ripe avocado (approx. 5 oz / 140g), pitted and peeled
- 1 tsp (5ml) fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 tsp (1.5g) kosher salt
- 1/8 tsp (0.5g) cracked black pepper
- pinch (0.1g) red pepper flakes
- 1 tsp (5ml) extra virgin olive oil
- pinch of flaky sea salt
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, combine the scooped avocado, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Using a fork, mash the avocado until it reaches your preferred consistency. Stir in the red pepper flakes.
- Toast the bread slices until they are golden brown and firm to the touch. If using a skillet, heat oil over medium heat and toast for 2 minutes per side. While hot, optionally brush with olive oil or rub a raw garlic clove over the surface.
- Spoon a generous amount of the avocado smash onto each slice, spreading it to the edges. Drizzle with a tiny bit of olive oil and finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt. Serve immediately.
