Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (250g)
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp garlic powder (divided: 1/2 tsp for dough, 1/2 tsp for glaze)
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (113g), cubed
- 1.5 cups sharp cheddar cheese (150g), freshly shredded
- 1 cup cold buttermilk (240ml)
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- 1 pinch Old Bay seasoning
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, and kosher salt.
- Use a pastry cutter or two forks to work the 1/2 cup of cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Quickly fold in the freshly shredded cold cheddar cheese.
- Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir gently until just combined; do not overmix the dough.
- Drop approximately 1/4-cup portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
- Bake for 12 minutes, or until the biscuit tops are golden brown and the edges are crispy.
- While biscuits bake, whisk together 3 tbsp melted butter, the remaining 1/2 tsp garlic powder, dried parsley, and Old Bay.
- Brush the glaze over the biscuits immediately after removing them from the oven.
