Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (250g)
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (divided: 1/2 tsp for dough, 1/2 tsp for glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (113g), cubed
  • 1.5 cups sharp cheddar cheese (150g), freshly shredded
  • 1 cup cold buttermilk (240ml)
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 pinch Old Bay seasoning

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, and kosher salt.
  3. Use a pastry cutter or two forks to work the 1/2 cup of cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Quickly fold in the freshly shredded cold cheddar cheese.
  5. Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir gently until just combined; do not overmix the dough.
  6. Drop approximately 1/4-cup portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  7. Bake for 12 minutes, or until the biscuit tops are golden brown and the edges are crispy.
  8. While biscuits bake, whisk together 3 tbsp melted butter, the remaining 1/2 tsp garlic powder, dried parsley, and Old Bay.
  9. Brush the glaze over the biscuits immediately after removing them from the oven.
